Ceremonies |
| |
Do we hold ceremonies? Ah, you’ve heard about these? Many people know of the very personal and dignified non-religious funerals that Humanists have conducted for many decades. Less well-known are our ceremonies to celebrate a marriage or to welcome a new baby into the world These memorable occasions are not led by the group but by individual members who have been trained, accredited and monitored as officiants by the BHA.
Why choose a Humanist Ceremony?
Humanists like to celebrate too, but prefer to do so in non-religious ceremonies, where they will not find themselves saying things they do not believe. |

Baby Namings |
Choosing a name and introducing this new person to the circle of family and friends are important, but christenings and other religious rituals are unsuitable and hypocritical for parents who do not believe in any god. It is possible to organise your own welcoming ceremony or to plan one with a humanist celebrant.

Weddings /
Civil Partnerships |
Humanist weddings/Civil Partnerships can be as formal or informal as the couple would like, and can take place anywhere, but because the couple have chosen the ceremony and their promises themselves, they take it all seriously even though it is a happy occasion. |
|
Funerals |
At a humanist funeral there is no suggestion that the person has gone on to another life - it is the life that was lived that is celebrated and the person people knew who is talked about and said goodbye to. |
|
Officiants |
The British Humanist Association has a network of accredited officiants or celebrants who are qualified to conduct humanist namings, weddings, civil partnerships and funerals.
At Farnham we have 3 accredited officiants all of whom can conduct namings, weddings and funerals.: |
